Rhinoplasty in Greensburg / Pittsburgh
We perform rhinoplasty often at our facility outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, can benefit both males and females. Rhinoplasty surgery can have remarkable results, as making only modest modifications on the nose can pleasingly enhance a person's facial contours.
Rhinoplasty surgery can reduce or change the size or shape of the tip or bridge of the nose, or just change the angle between the upper lip and the nose. It may also be performed to correct defects caused by an injury and remedy breathing difficulties.
Who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty surgery?
Any person with realistic expectations and dissatisfaction with their nose is a good candidate for this procedure. If you are looking to make an improvement in the way you look, rhinoplasty can be a very rewarding experience.

Under these circumstances, complications are infrequent and usually minor. Just like all surgeries, rhinoplasty carries a risk of infection, bleeding, and reaction to the anesthesia. You can reduce your risks by following the doctor's instructions both before and after the surgery.
How do I plan for rhinoplasty?
Communication between the doctor and the patient is essential. In your initial consultation, you need to be very frank about your expectations with Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino. They will explain in detail what is and what is not possible given your individual facial anatomy. Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino will go over the various factors that may influence the outcome of the procedure. These factors include the shape of your face, nasal bone and cartilage structure, your age, and your expectations.
What happens during rhinoplasty surgery?
Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino will inform you about surgery preparations, including what you should and should not do before surgery. The actual surgery usually takes one to two hours, depending on what needs to be done. Typically, we give our rhinoplasty Pittsburgh patients a general anesthetic for rhinoplasty surgery, which is supervised by a medical doctor.
Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino usually perform open rhinoplasty. This means the surgeon will make a small incision on the underside of your nose for better visibility. A splint is applied to the outside of your nose to maintain contours.
What happens after the rhinoplasty procedure?
Your face will feel puffy for the first 24 hours after rhinoplasty. Nasal packing is NOT used, which minimizes post operative discomfort. You will notice swelling and bruising, which will usually peak at about 48-72 hours following surgery. Using cold compresses and keeping your head elevated will help with the swelling. You will return to our center in five to seven days after surgery to have your splint removed, sutures taken out, and to take your first glimpse at your new nose, which will be about 75 percent from the final result.
How long is the recovery after rhinoplasty?
Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino will give you specific advice based on your personal needs. You can expect to return to your usual routine after a few days. You will want to take it easy for a couple of weeks and avoid strenuous activity, which could raise your blood pressure. You will want to be careful not to hit your nose. Most of the noticeable swelling will be gone in a couple of weeks. The final appearance of your new nose will take up to six months or even a year to emerge.
Chin Augmentation
Chin implants can enhance your appearance and may bolster your self-esteem. Frequently, these implants help provide a more harmonious balance to your face when performed simultaneously with nasal surgery (rhinoplasty).
What is chin augmentation?
Chin augmentation is the surgical placement of a chin implant to accentuate a chin that is less pronounced. It is placed to give a more balanced look to your face.
Who is a good candidate for chin augmentation?
Any healthy male or female can have this surgery. The best candidates have good dental occlusion but a chin that appears receded.
Are there any risks involved?
Infection is a very rare complication, but can be treated with medications should it occur. It's also possible for an implant to shift slightly out of alignment, which may require a second, corrective procedure. However, this is a rare occurrence.
How do I plan for chin augmentation surgery?
When you discuss this procedure with Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino, you need to be clear about your expectations so that your surgeon can help you determine a realistic result. You will also be asked to stop taking aspirin before your surgery.
What happens during chin augmentation surgery?
The chin augmentation procedure at our center outside of Pittsburgh usually takes about one hour to complete. During the procedure, Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino will try different size implants to determine which size looks best. After they have selected the best implant for you, this implant is placed in a pocket the doctor creates in front of your chin. The incision is placed on the underside of your chin where it is not obvious. Incisions inside of the mouth are an option, but only when absolutely necessary.
What happens after chin augmentation surgery?
Since we perform chin augmentation surgery as an outpatient procedure, you will be free to return home the same day of the surgery. You will have a tight, taped bandage on your chin to help restrict movement and will experience some discomfort and swelling in the area for several days. Bruising is usually minimal and disappears quickly.
How long is the recovery after chin augmentation?
You will be able to return to normal activities within a short time and should be able to return to work within a few days. While you may experience some temporary difficulty smiling and talking, and your chin and neck area will show bruising, both should disappear within a week. The final results of the surgery may not be visible for several weeks.
Browlift
Many men and women have benefited from this facial rejuvenation procedure. A browlift, also known as a forehead lift, can help to minimize the signs of aging, such as drooping eyebrows, hooding over the eyes, forehead furrows, and frown lines.
What is a browlift?
A browlift, also known as a forehead lift, can give you a more youthful, refreshed look. The muscles and skin that cause troublesome wrinkles, creases or sagging are removed or altered to smooth the forehead, raise the upper eyelids, and minimize frown lines. While this facial rejuvenation procedure can be done alone, at our Pennsylvania surgical center our surgeons often perform browlift in conjunction with other procedures, such as blepharoplasty and facelift.
Who is a good candidate for browlift surgery?
Browlift candidates may vary in age. However, this procedure is most commonly performed on people in their 40s to 60s who seek facial rejuvenation to reduce the signs of aging. A browlift can also help people with inherited conditions, such as a droopy brow or furrowed lines above the nose.

How do I plan for a browlift?
To see how a browlift might change your appearance, stand in front of a mirror and lace the palms of your hands at the outer edges of your eyes, above your eyebrows. Then gently draw the skin upward to raise the brow and forehead area. This will simulate the degree of facial rejuvenation that a browlift can give you. However, you will need to be evaluated by Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino to see what result you can expect. The surgeons will discuss with you what your expectations are and what can be realistically accomplished.
What happens during browlift surgery?
The browlift/forehead lift procedure can be done under sedation or a general anesthetic. Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino will discuss the options with you in detail during your one-on-one consultation appointment.
There are various browlift techniques, and which technique Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino use dictates where the incisions will be placed. If the surgeon uses a more traditional approach, the incision line will be just behind the hairline and will run across the top of your head. For mild brow drooping, our surgeon will use an endoscopic technique, which utilizes a tiny lighted camera to perform the procedure. The endoscopic technique uses multiple small incision sites that are still placed behind the hairline. Regardless of which technique is used, the surgeon will elevate eyebrows and the forehead skin and position the eyebrows, giving you a younger, more alert look.
What happens after the browlift procedure?
You can expect to have some bruising and swelling for about one week or so following surgery. You will return to our medical center in about seven days to have your sutures or staples removed. During recovery, you will want to keep your head elevated to help minimize the swelling. Any discomfort you may experience can be controlled with medications prescribed by Dr. Lazzaro and Dr. Antimarino.
How long is recovery?
You should be up and about in one to two days after surgery, but plan on taking it easy for at least one week. Most people are able to go back to work in about 10 days. You should limit vigorous activity for several weeks following a browlift. Most of the visible signs of surgery should fade within two weeks, though minor swelling and bruising may last a little longer.
Otoplasty (Cosmetic Ear Surgery)
Otoplasty, also known as ear pinning, can bring ears back closer to the head and may prevent your child from being teased in school if his or her ears stick out too far. More and more adults are also experiencing the benefits of this procedure.
What is otoplasty?
This procedure is done when the ears protrude more than normal. Otoplasty sets the ears back to a more inconspicuous position.
Who is a good candidate for otoplasty surgery?
An otoplasty can be performed on a child after the age of five or six, when the ear growth is almost complete. However, otoplasty is sometimes recommended for children younger than that, if they are severely disfigured. In this case, an early ear surgery eliminates the emotional stress they might experience when they enter school.

The risks associated with this procedure are common with any surgery. Infection and bleeding are a potential complication but when performed by a qualified plastic surgeon these side effects are rare and usually minor. You can reduce these risks by following the doctor's instructions both before and after the surgery.
What happens during ear pinning surgery?
Otoplasty is usually performed to create or restore the center fold to disproportionately large or prominent ears. The surgical incision is made on the back of the ear to expose the ear cartilage. Then, the surgeon uses sutures to fold the cartilage in on itself, thereby reshaping the ear. This procedure usually takes a little longer than one hour to complete, depending on the extent of the surgery.
What happens after ear pinning surgery?
A mildly compressive head dressing is worn for the first couple of days after otoplasty. Since sutures are self-absorbing, you will not have to return to our surgical center for suture removal. Any discomfort can be controlled by medication.
How long is the recovery after otoplasty?
You should be back to normal activities in one week. We recommend that you take it easy for a few weeks to give your ears time to heal. You will be asked to wear a snug headband at night for a couple of weeks to help maintain the position of the ears following surgery.
